Evaluation:
The evaluation of the student results within the framework of the subject study is carried out, in particular, by continuous check up of the study results during the teaching part of the given period of study (examination questions, written tests, tasks for individual work, papers, coursework, etc.), and examination for the given period of study. The course (subject) completion is evaluated by a mark. A mark expresses the quality of acquisition of knowledge or skills in agreement with the aim of the subject. The result of evaluation is recorded in the study report (and the study book called index). Evaluation by a mark is carried out according to the system of grading composed of six grades:
A – excellent = 1
B – very good = 1,5
C – good = 2
D – satisfactory = 2,5
E – sufficient = 3
FX – fail = 4
Credit system:
The organisation of all levels and forms of higher education study is based on the credit system. The credit system of study enables to evaluate the student’s load connected with the completion of the units of study programme in agreement with the rules contained in the study programme. The standard load is expressed by the number of credits as follows: 60 for academic year, 30 credits for semester. The student shall obtain credits for the course (subject) if his/her result were assessed by any of the classification grades from A to E. For evaluation of overall study records of the student in a defined period the use is made of a subject weighted average. It is counted in such a way that the products of number of credits and numerical assessment in the period assessed shall be summed up and the result shall be divided by total number of credits registered by the student for the given period.
The credit system for the PhD study is based on different evaluation structure since it consists of two parts – the study and research. The study of the PhD student is a subject of annual assessment which is interlinked to accumulation of credits for his/her individual activities. A part of the PhD study is a completion of the dissertation examination, to be concluded by the defence of a dissertation thesis. The annual evaluation of a PhD student rests in evaluation of the state and level of the PhD study, inspection of fulfilling the set up tasks of the study and scientific parts of the PhD study. The annual evaluation of the PhD student is carried out by the tutor in cooperation with the PhD student, in a written form. He/she submits it to the Dean of the Faculty along with the proposal of continuation, expulsion or prolongation, on annual base.
Teaching methods:
Teaching methods are the same in the study programme of the first and the second level: lectures, seminars, laboratory exercises. Practical parts of teaching often use simulation methods, minimized operational facilities, projects, etc.
State examination:
A condition for regular completion of studies is the State examination. In addition to the defence of a qualification thesis, there may also be the other State examinations prescribed. The State examination is usually commissioned verification of student’s knowledge and comprehension of the completed subjects in coherences.
The PhD study is finished by the defence of a dissertation thesis after completing dissertation examination. The dissertation examination and the defence of dissertation thesis belong to the State examination. Every PhD thesis is review by three independent reviewers.
Certification:
The graduates of the Bachelor’s study and Master’s study are issued diplomas indicating the study branches, study programmes, academic degree, identification of a higher education institution and faculty and of a graduate (name, surname, date of birth), a certificate on the state examination and Diploma Supplement if applicable. The Diploma Supplement contains detailed information on completed study and the system of higher education in the Slovak Republic.
The graduates of the PhD’s study are issued diplomas showing the name of the higher education institution, faculty, study field and study programme.
Admission of foreign students:
The conditions for admission of foreigners to the study at higher education institution are the same like for the citizens of the Slovak Republic. Foreign applicants for study are accepted on the basis of appropriate intergovernmental agreements or as self-payers (tuition payment). Foreign applicants, who actively speak and study in Slovak or Czech language, are accepted and study under the same conditions as students from Slovakia (full-time students are not charged provided that they do not simultaneously study two or more study programmes at the same level or exceed the standard length of a public higher education institution study programme).
Foreign applicants for study in Slovak or Czech language shall complete the same application as Slovak applicants.
Applicants for study in English language (self-payer applicants) shall complete this application form. For full time study in English language the tuition for self-payer applicants is (fees might be updated annually):
- EUR 4.500/academic year (Bc. – programmes)
- EUR 5.000/academic year (MSc. – programmes)
- EUR 6.000/academic year (PhD. – programmes)
After fulfilling all required conditions, the self-payer applicant will be asked to pay the advance of EUR 2000. The advance is the essential condition for obtaining the Letter of Acceptance. If the applicant will not be given the visa, the advance will be returned back to his/her account.
